As we mark Mental Health Awareness Month, I am writing to share the exceptional work that Family Service Agency of the Central Coast has been doing for 65 years to ensure that kids, teens, and adults in our community have access to impactful mental health and wellness programs and services.

Today, I am asking for your financial support to help us continue our legacy of excellence in providing critical mental health services that are needed now more than ever before. I am thrilled to acknowledge and thank The William J. Codiga Family Foundation for their generous offer to match, dollar for dollar, all donations made to Family Service Agency during May and June, up to a maximum of $50,000. This means that your support will have double the impact.

As the new CEO, I am deeply moved and inspired by the dedication and passion of our staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly and are the foundation on which our agency rests. Family Service Agency is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of our community, whether it's addressing the post-Covid epidemic of youth anxiety through our counseling program, providing treatment for those struggling with suicidal thoughts, offering specialized support for youth, families, and the LGBTQ+ community, supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse, providing mental health services to seniors who lack access, or offering whole-person support to women with cancer. Our commitment is to serve those who need us most, and your support can help us make a meaningful impact.

Our suicide prevention program is a dynamic force in suicide prevention on the central coast. With the implementation of the new 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number, the number of callers we are supporting has doubled, and we anticipate a continuous upward trajectory in the months and years ahead. Your donation today will help us to expand our crisis line to include text/chat support, increase our support services to suicide loss survivors, offer more suicide prevention awareness trainings, and provide treatment for those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts.

Our senior services programs offer crucial peer support, community engagement, and counseling. We understand that many seniors face culturally constructed isolation that can contribute to poor mental health outcomes. Our programs are designed to address this by connecting helpers with isolated seniors, building community in care facilities, and providing essential mental health services through our skilled team of licensed clinicians.

“I felt so alone in my life and in my suffering at points in my life I would rather not be living and contemplated suicide. This space, facilitator and group have given me a safe place where I am not alone and maybe most importantly, my children have a mom that has a safe place.” -anonymous FSA client

We are proud to offer WomenCARE, a program that provides crucial support services to women who have received a cancer diagnosis. Without these valuable services, many women would be left without the necessary resources to navigate their treatment. Our WomenCARE program is primarily run by a network of volunteers, and your donations can help us to expand our program’s infrastructure and increase the number of women we support.

Please join with us to honor Mental Health Awareness Month and take advantage of the incredible match grant provided by the William J. Codiga Family Foundation. Your donation today can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need us most.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Bill McCabe, LMFT
